Press Release On The Result of Holding the Draw to Determine the Order of Political Parties on Ballot Papers

After The National Election Committee (NEC) had officially recognized the four political parties competing in the Election of the Members of the Senate in 4th Legislature, it held the draw to determine the order of political parties on ballot papers by the Supreme Patriarch of 2 denominations at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Interior, presided over by H.E. Mr. SIK BUNHOK,   NEC CHAIRMAN on the morning of 08 January 2018.

As a result, the Supreme Patriarch of 2 denominations took the draw to determine the order of political parties as follows:
-    Cambodian’s People Party     No. 1 
-    Cambodian Youth Party        No. 2
-    Khmer National United Party    No. 3
-    FUNCINPEC Party        No. 4

H.E. Mr. SIK BUNHOK stated that determining the order of each political party would provide favorable conditions for political parties relative to campaigning and helping voters to recognize the political party they like easily. He continued, “The Election of the Members of the Senate is a non-universal election voted by all Members of Parliament and Commune/Sangkat Councilors holding their current position under the framework of each region only.” There are 33 polling stations with the total voters of 11,695; indeed, 123 of them are Members of Parliament in the Election of the Members of the Senate in 4th Legislature.  

It is noticed that the Election of the Members of the Senate in 4th Legislature will be held on 25 February 2018. There are 62 Members of Senate for the Election of the Members of the Senate in 4th Legislature; moreover, 02 of them shall be appointed by the King while 02 others shall be elected by the Parliament by comparative majority. Other members shall be elected by non-universal election, indirect and secret ballots.     

The seats in the Senate elected shall be classified into the following regions:
   
- 1st region: Phnom Penh Municipality 6 Seats
- 2nd region: Kampong Cham and Tbong Khmum 8 Seats
- 3rd region: Kandal 5 Seats
- 4th region: Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, Oddor Meanchey, Pailin    10 Seats
- 5th region: Takeo, Kampot, Kep 7 Seats
- 6th region: Prey Veng, Svay Rieng 7 Seats
- 7th region: Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Koh Kong, Preah Sihanuke 9 Seats   
- 8th region: Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Steung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri 6 Seats

 In the upcoming time, NEC will produce ballot papers by each region to be used in the Election of the Members of the Senate in 4th Legislature; indeed, those ballot papers shall have the order of political parties running for the election to be determined in sequence on the ballot papers for 8 regions nationwide.
